Church: Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues is our way to connect parents to what kids are talking about and experiencing in the Sunday morning teaching. We want to help to equip parents and spiritual parents with Scripture, talking points, and experiential activities to continue to disciple their kids well every day of the week.

Preschool

WALKERS:
Summary: This week in kidmax, children learned that Jesus wants us to tell everyone about him!
Series: Mission
Big Idea: Jesus gives us a job to do.
Key Verse: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b
God Story: The Great Commission | Matthew 28:16-20

  1. READ Matthew 28:16-20 in a children’s Bible, or download the free e-book file!
  2. SING Download “Stop and Go” on the Yancy Taste and See album.
  3. FAMILY FUN! Grab a family photo album, and look through it with your little one. Point to family members and say, “Jesus loves Grandma!” “Jesus loves Grandpa!” If your little one is verbal, he or she may begin to follow your pattern or repeat you.

3-SK
Summary: This week in kidmax, children learned about a lady named Lydia who loved Jesus and acted like it too.
Series: Mission.
Big Idea: Jesus gives us a job to do.
Key Verse: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b
God Story: Lydia Believes in Jesus | Acts 16-11-15

  1. READ Acts 16:11-15 in a children’s Bible.
  2. SING Download “Stop and Go” on the Yancy Taste and See album.
  3. DO. Paul shared the message of Jesus with Lydia. Lydia believed and was baptised. Her whole household was baptised. When we love Jesus and share his message with others, it spreads! Just like Paul, Jesus gives us a job to do: tell everyone about him!
Option 1: Take dominoes and set them up, and show how one domino can impact dozens of other dominoes, just like one person can help dozens or more people learn about Jesus!
Option 2: Have your child draw a circle in the centre of a coffee filter. Fold the coffee filter twice so it makes the shape of an ice cream cone. Dip the tip of it in the water and watch the colour spread. When the colour is finished spreading open the filter and see how far the colour spread. Let your child know that, in the same way the water helped the colour spread, they can help spread the awesome news of Jesus with many people!

Kids

GRADES 1-5
Summary: This week in kidmax, kids learned that when we live for Jesus and follow him, we become part of his body called the church.
Series: JAMES | Living it
Big Idea: Living for Jesus means being a part of his body, the church.
God Story: James 5
Key Verse: “You are God’s chosen people. You are holy and dearly loved. So put on tender mercy and kindness as if they were your clothes. Don’t be proud. Be gentle and patient.” Colossians 3:12

  1. DISCUSS: What is the church? (Not a building. Not a place. A group of people who love and serve Jesus!) What job or role or part do you have in the church?
  2. WATCH the video teaching below with your family this week.
  3. TALK about the video as a family. What stood out to you? What did you like? What did you want to ask a question about? (Tip: If it’s helpful, consider pausing the video as you watch it together, and ask questions or talk about things that stick out to you as you go!)
  4. Check out the midweek activity page!
