Fast: Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues is our way to connect parents to what kids are talking about and experiencing in the Sunday morning teaching. We want to help to equip parents and spiritual parents with Scripture, talking points, and experiential activities to continue to disciple their kids well every day of the week.

WALKERS:
Summary: This week in kidmax, children worked together as a community.
Series: Community
Big Idea: We are the church together.
Key Verse: “Encourage each other and build each other up” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
God Story: The Early Church | Acts 2:42-47

  1. READ the story of the early church in a children’s Bible or download the free e-book!
  2. SING Download “Love One Another” on the Yancy Happy Day Everyday album.
  3. HOME CHURCH. Do you attend a home church? Is it family-friendly? If it is, while you are there, be sure to point out to your child that what you are doing at home church is a lot like what the first church did when it met together! So cool! If you attend a home church that isn’t family-friendly, inquire as to whether or not you could bring your child to visit that night OR find a family-friendly home church to check out. If you don’t yet attend a home church, find one!

    1. Say a prayer of “Thank you, God for”. The parent says, “Thank you, God for…” and the child names people, places, or things they are thankful for.
    2. Say a prayer of help. “Dear God, please help [child’s name] not to be afraid of…”; Have child fill in the blank. Dear God, please help our friends…”. Have child fill in the blank.
    3. Pray together as a family, or pray with spiritual family and invite your child into it. They may get distracted or try to talk and ask questions, but they will start to understand what this is all about.

Kids

GRADES 1-5
Summary: This week in kidmax, kids learned about prayer and fasting.
Series: Acts | RADICAL
Big Idea: Prayer and fasting make a radical difference.
God Story: Prayer and Fasting | Acts 13:1-3
Key Verse: “When anyone lives in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone! The new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

  1. DISCUSS fasting. What is it? Why do Christians fast? Should we fast? If so, from what? Collaborate with your child on something you’ll fast this week while you pray. Maybe screen time, or excess toys, or something that may be distracting.
  2. WATCH the video teaching below (haha, unless you’re fasting from screen time!) with your family this week.
  3. TALK about the video as a family. What stood out to you? What did you like? What did you want to ask a question about? (Tip: If it’s helpful, consider pausing the video as you watch it together, and ask questions or talk about things that stick out to you as you go!)
  4. Have you learned the Key Verse together as a family, yet? Now’s your chance! As you pray and fast, also take time to reflect on and digest the Key Verse for this series.
  5. Check out the midweek activity page!
