Focus: Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues is our way to connect parents to what kids are talking about and experiencing in the Sunday morning teaching. We want to help to equip parents and spiritual parents with Scripture, talking points, and experiential activities to continue to disciple their kids well every day of the week.

WALKERS

Summary: This week, children learned that we can love others with the love God gives us.
Big Idea: Jesus shows us God’s love.
Key Verse: “Let’s love each other because love is from God.” 1 John 4:7

  1. SING Download “Go!” from the Yancy album Happy Day Everyday.
  2. PRAY At bedtime each night as you pray with your little one, thank God that Jesus shows us God’s love.
  3. DO Consider a special activity to tell your child about, where you can be an example to them about how you can show others God’s love. Gather up clothing that your family doesn’t wear anymore, and let your little one know that you can take it to donate for people who need clothing. This is one way to show God’s love to others. Or, buy some socks and take them to a homeless shelter. Socks are one of the largest needed items. Let your little one know this is another way to show God’s love to others.

2-3 YEAR-OLDS

Summary: This week, children learned that the promises God made in the past came true with Jesus.
Big Idea: Jesus shows us God’s love.
Key Verse: “Let’s love each other because love is from God.” 1 John 4:7
God Story: Jesus in Nazareth | Luke 4:16-21

  1. READ Luke 4:16-21 in a children’s Bible.
  2. SING Download “Go!” from the Yancy album Happy Day Everyday.
  3. MAKE & PLAY Jesus read the Scriptures, and today, we can read those same Scriptures we now call the Old Testament. In Jesus’ time, they didn’t have books, they had scrolls. Using some paper and unsharpened pencils, glue or tape the pencils to the ends of the paper, and roll them up. Show your little one that instead of reading from a book, Jesus would have read from something more like this called a scroll!

Grades 1-5

Summary: This week, kids learned that when we focus on Jesus, we have nothing to fear.
Series: Matthew | Jesus
Big Idea: When we focus on Jesus, we don’t need to be afraid.
God Story: Matthew 14:22-33 | Jesus Walks on Water
Key Verse: “Jesus said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me.’” Matthew 16:24

  1. READ 1 John 4:18. What does it say about fear? What does it say about love? What kinds of things do you fear the most?
  2. WATCH the video teaching below with your family this week. Talk about the video as a family. What stood out to you? What did you like? What did you want to ask a question about? (Tip: If it’s helpful, consider pausing the video as you watch it together, and ask questions or talk about things that stick out to you as you go!)
  3. As a family, brainstorm a way to be reminded of Jesus in the middle of your fear. How can you help one another focus on Jesus and not be afraid?
