A Prayer Guide for Back-to-School

Written by Sharon Parker, Prayer Coordinator at The Meeting House Brantford.

Jesus prayed for the children. He said “Let the little children come to me.  For to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”  He laid his hands on them and blessed them.

And so we pray for the children as they return to school in this very different and difficult year. Pray for safety for the children:

  1. While waiting for the bus
  2. Traveling to and from school
  3. In school
  4. From accidents, injury, and illness
  5. from anxiety and fear

Pray for the littlest ones, whose first experience of school is this year, that it will be a good and enjoyable experience regardless of the situation.

Pray that all children will be able to enjoy friends and something that feels like normal, but not forget to keep safe and be hygienic.

Pray that children will be kept from the trauma caused by anxiety that could be generated during this time. That the virus and restrictions will be something to be respected.

Pray that each child will have their social needs met and that each child will be able to find friends in the small groups they will be in.

Pray that children will be able to learn effectively in the new situation.

Pray for the teachers: for wisdom to be able to quickly adjust to the situation and find safe and effective ways to teach; that the stress will not be overwhelming; that they will be able to cope; that they will stay positive; that they will stay healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Pray that teachers would be protected from discouragement and burnout.

Pray for peace amid the situation.

Pray for administrative staff, EAs, online teachers, custodial staff, bus drivers, and all other staff: for wisdom and safety.

Pray for peace for parents who they are sending their precious children off to school. Pray for peace for parents who are home schooling.

Lord, for everyone, as school begins again, we ask for your protection and your peace to be over, in and throughout the schools.

In Jesus name. Amen.
