An Invitation to Fast and Pray

The Lenten season is creeping close. In fact, next week marks Shrove Tuesday (better known to many of us as Pancake Tuesday…yup, that’s next Tuesday, February 28th). The day after that is called Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. It’s a day in which we remember that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. A day when we are reminded to “repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

Lent began as a reminder of the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. It is the 40 days that lead up to Easter, and Christians are invited to fast and pray during this time leading up to the remembrance of Christ on the cross and the resurrection.

This year, together with our denomination, the BIC, we have created a Lenten Devotional that invites us all to fast and pray in various forms throughout this season. As parents, it is easy to put ourselves last in every area of life. Let’s challenge one another to put our walk with God first and really prioritize spending time with him. You can download the full Lenten Devotional, print it off, share it around.
