Forgive: Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues is our way to connect parents to what kids are talking about and experiencing in the Sunday morning teaching. We want to help to equip parents and spiritual parents with Scripture, talking points, and experiential activities to continue to disciple their kids well every day of the week.

Early Years

Series: Serve
Summary: In this series, children will see that Jesus loves them, Jesus teaches us how to serve, and Jesus wants us to serve others, too. Even from the youngest age, as children are learning to do so many things, learning to care for others, help, and serve are things that we believe Jesus wants us to teach them too.
Big Idea: Jesus wants us to serve others.
Key Verse: “Serve one another in love.”| Galatians 5:13
God Story: The Good Samaritan | Luke 10:25-37
  1. SING Download “J-E-S-U-S” from The Meeting House Kids on Spotify or Apple Music or Google Play.
  2. READ together the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25-37 in a children’s Bible. When finished, ask your child: how did that man help the injured one? Did he have to help? Why do you think he did?
  3. MAKE Help your child make a thank you card for someone who has helped serve them. Then, mail or deliver the card.

Grades 1-5

Summary: Jesus taught many amazing things, and the truth is that if we actually believe them, take them to heart, and live them out, it’ll change not only our own lives but the lives of others around us. And when we don’t know where to start, it’s very best to start with the basics. In this series, we’ll look out the most important commandment, prayer, forgiveness, and worry.
Series: Luke | The Basics
Big Idea: Forgive. Forgive. Forgive.
God Story: How Many Times Should I Forgive? | Luke 17:1-4
Key Verse: “ ‘Father, may your name be honoured. May your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we also forgive everyone who sins against us.’ “ | Luke 11:2-4
  1. ASK your child: when is it hard for you to forgive? Do you think others have a hard time forgiving you?
  2. READ Luke 17:1-4. What did Jesus say? What does that mean for us?
  3. WATCH the video teaching below with your family this week. Talk about the video as a family. What stood out to you? What did you like? What did you want to ask a question about? (Tip: If it’s helpful, consider pausing the video as you watch it together, and ask questions or talk about things that stick out to you as you go!)
  4. Download the midweek activity page.
