Pray: Our Story Continues…

Our Story Continues is our way to connect parents to what kids are talking about and experiencing in the Sunday morning teaching. We want to help to equip parents and spiritual parents with Scripture, talking points, and experiential activities to continue to disciple their kids well every day of the week.

Early Years

Series: Serve
Summary: In this series, children will see that Jesus loves them, Jesus teaches us how to serve, and Jesus wants us to serve others, too. Even from the youngest age, as children are learning to do so many things, learning to care for others, help, and serve are things that we believe Jesus wants us to teach them too.

Big Idea: Jesus wants us to serve others.
Key Verse: “Serve one another in love.”| Galatians 5:13
God Story: Jesus and the Mother of James and John | Matthew 20:20-28
  1. SING Download “J-E-S-U-S” from The Meeting House Kids on Spotify or Apple Music or Google Play.
  2. READ the story of Jesus and the mother of James and John (use our flip book here if you’d like!). Explain that sometimes we want to be the most important or get the best things, but Jesus invites us to serve others.
  3. SERVE as a family. Consider one thing you can do this week to serve each other. Consider choosing names from your family and really emphasize serving that person well this week. At the end of the week, share what it was like to think about serving. (E.g. use feelings questions: how did it make you feel when…)

Grades 1-5

Summary: Jesus taught many amazing things, and the truth is that if we actually believe them, take them to heart, and live them out, it’ll change not only our own lives but the lives of others around us. And when we don’t know where to start, it’s very best to start with the basics. In this series, we’ll look out the most important commandment, prayer, forgiveness, and worry.
Series: Luke | The Basics
Big Idea: Pray.
God Story: Jesus Teaches How to Pray | Luke 11:1-13
Key Verse: “ ‘Father, may your name be honoured. May your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we also forgive everyone who sins against us.’ “ | Luke 11:2-4
  1. ASK your child: When do you pray? How do you pray?
  2. READ Luke 11:2-4. How does Jesus teach his disciples to pray? (Go line by line and ask what that means for you!)
  3. WATCH the video teaching below with your family this week. Talk about the video as a family. What stood out to you? What did you like? What did you want to ask a question about? (Tip: If it’s helpful, consider pausing the video as you watch it together, and ask questions or talk about things that stick out to you as you go!)
